A straightforward path
to your procedure.
Referrals, costs and practical information for private patients.
Start with a referral
Ask your GP for a referral to Dr Glenn Hawken. You may be due for a colonoscopy to follow up previous polyps or other findings.
When the need for the procedure is already clear, direct access can save a separate appointment. Dr Hawken reviews your referral to confirm it is suitable. If you would prefer a consultation, simply ask for one.
Private cover. No doctor or anaesthetic gap.
When your private insurance covers the procedure, Dr Hawken and his anaesthetist both no-gap bill: your out-of-pocket cost for their procedure services is $0.
There is no booking fee for direct-access colonoscopy.
These are the procedure charges within our control, and we keep them at zero for covered private patients.
Your hospital excess
Private hospital costs are covered by insurers in almost all situations where the policy and hospital agreement cover the admission. The hospital can confirm your cover.
The remaining hospital payment is usually any excess on your policy. This can range from zero to several hundred dollars. Some policies charge it only once per calendar year, so you may already have paid it.
Your excess is set by your policy and insurer, outside our control. Check with your insurer whether it applies to this admission.
Bowel preparation
We send your preparation instructions before the procedure. You buy Plenvu from your chemist for around $29; pharmacy prices vary.

| Procedure | Indicative item |

Self-funding your procedure
You are welcome to arrange private care without private health insurance. Some patients choose to self-fund occasional procedures instead of paying insurance premiums.
